    Description

This is a superb and rare antique Victorian hallmarked sterling silver salver tray measuring 19 1/2” across and was hand chased in or around London by Charles Thomas Fox in 1835/1836. It’s in excellent condition and is generally circular in shape adorned by the inspired decorations of engraved swirling morning glories, roses, leaves and other flowers. Very pleasing to the eye. The circular shape is made more interesting with the edging of the tray which is escalloped and seamlessly incorporates the same swirling floral designs with six defining clusters, each the same design complex. It sits on three handsome and beautifully proportioned escalloped feet and is approximately 2 ¼” high. The tray weighs very close to 6lbs & 3oz (which converts to 90 troy ounces). This elegant tray, which has been in the family since the 1950’s, has been advertised previously through a dealer but its condition was seriously misrepresented likely as a result of confusion with other items. The only defects are patina from ageing and a superficial “depression" which is inconspicuous, very small, confined to the surface and no deeper than the thickness of paint. The surface is intact and we are talking in terms of millimeters. The sellers are a brother and sister who live in Ohio and who would like to sell the tray but only on terms mutually beneficial to both buyer and seller. We would be happy to accommodate physical inspections or provide additional photographs. Buyer will be responsible for any shipping and any sale will be final.
